ASPARTAME MAKES YOU FATTER!

Position Statement from Dr. Sandra Cabot

Dr. Sandra Cabot, a medical doctor for over 25 years and with clinical and research interests in the liver and metabolism. Author of several best selling health books including the "Liver Cleansing Diet", "The Body Shaping Diet", "Don't Let Your Hormones Ruin Your Life", "Women's Health", "Menopause and Natural Hormone Replacement Therapy" and lecture internationally on these subjects.

Here's what she has to say about this subject:

"I have been consulted by thousands of patients with weight problems, hormonal imbalances, fatty liver, sluggish metabolism and chronic ill health. I have been an advocate and practitioner of nutritional methods of healing for 30 years. I regularly appear on national television and broadcast on many radio stations to educate people about the importance of a healthy liver in achieving good health and weight control!
In the interests of public health I am making a position statement concerning the use of the artificial sweetener called aspartame and sold most commonly under the names of NutraSweet and Equal. One must ask, "why do millions of people ingest a toxic chemical like aspartame everyday"? To me it appears ridiculous and I believe that it is because people have been brainwashed into thinking aspartame will keep their weight down and is good for health. It also shows me that we have lost touch with our own natural senses and instincts.

After having been consulted by thousands of overweight people suffering with problems concerning the liver and/or metabolism I can assure you that aspartame will not help you in any way, indeed it will help you to gain unwanted weight. This has been my experience, and there are logical reasons to explain the fattening and bloating effects of aspartame. When you ingest the toxic chemical aspartame it is absorbed from the intestines and passes immediately to the LIVER where it is taken inside the liver via the liver filter. The liver then breaks down or metabolizes aspartame to its toxic components - phenylalanine, aspartic acid and methanol. This process requires a lot of energy from the liver which means there will be less energy remaining in the liver cells. This means the liver cells will have less energy for fat burning and metabolism, which will result in fat storing. Excess fat may build up inside the liver cells causing "fatty liver" and when this starts to occur it is extremely difficult to lose weight. In my vast experience any time that you overload the liver you will increase the tendency to gain weight easily.

Aspartame also causes weight gain by other mechanisms ---Causes unstable blood sugar levels, which increases the appetite and causes cravings for sweets/sugar. Thus it is particularly toxic for those with diabetes or epilepsy. Causes fluid retention giving the body a puffy and bloated appearance. This makes people look fatter than they are and increases cellulite.

COMMENTS BY DR. BETTY MARTINI:
Also with regard to obesity and aspartame, the Trocho Study in Barcelona in l998 showed that the formaldehyde converted from the free methyl alcohol accumulates in the cells and damages DNA with most toxicity in the liver but substantial toxicity in the adipose tissue or fat cells. Further a recent epidemiological study by Sharon Fowler at the University of Texas in 2005 linked diet drinks with obesity.
In the Congressional Record, Senate, S - 5511, May 7, l985, and part of the protest of the National Soft Drink Assn, now American Beverage, is this Statement:

"Aspartame has been demonstrated to inhibit the carbohydrate-induced synthesis of the neurotransmitter serotonin (Wurtman affidavit). Serotonin blunts the sensation of craving carbohydrates and this is part of the body's feedback system that helps limit consumption of carbohydrate to appropriate levels. Its inhibition by aspartame could lead to the anomalous result of a diet product causing increased consumption of carbohydrates."
So as far as product liability is concerned you have companies marketing an addictive excitoneurotoxic carcinogenic drug to the population as a sugarfree diet product knowing full well this is causing obesity. They also know that aspartame is addictive and that the methanol component is classified as a narcotic. Aspartame liberates free methyl alcohol causing chronic methanol poisoning. This affects the dopamine system of the brain causing the addiction.Dr. Betty Martini

Manic-depressive disorder

The Health Coach, Contributing Writer
Waking Times
If ever there was a truly upcoming and global psychiatric condition, Bi-polar disorder (aka Manic-depressive disorder) is it. Everything about Society Western promotes such a condition from our youngest ages. As we unpack the several components of the mental and emotional baggage associated with Bi-polar disorder (BPD), you’ll quickly see how easy it is to manage … and then be free of altogether.
Let’s take a close look at the cultures in which BPD is most prevalent. Clearly, we find it showing up in societies which have a high incidence of addictions. Any kind of addictions – nicotine, caffeine, alcohol, recreational drugs, sugar, wheat, sex, gambling, sports, computer, TV, workaholism, etc. Why is there a direct correlation between the two? That’s a very good question you might want to reflect upon, if you feel you might have the manic-depressive tendency.
First, we see that addictions are an extreme response to life’s pressures, as is BPD. They are also frequently learned from previous generations, especially here in America. Every immigrant had(s) to deal with extraordinary challenges to make it in a foreign land. The first generation to join the melting pot often evolved coping behaviors which allowed them to survive. Especially when things got real tough, which they often did.
The lack of real community in a nation of workaholics or sportaholics and computerholics also makes for a dearth of social opportunities to communicate shared experience. When life is moving very fast, as it is today, this lack of a necessary social support system becomes all the more influential. What then happens is that the individual often resorts to going it alone, which is already highly encouraged by American society.
We’ve heard all the mantras promoting self-sufficiency.
  • Be all you can be.
  • The road to the top is a lonely one.
  • Climb the ladder to the top by yourself even if it’s a lonely journey.
  • If you want it done right, you have to do it yourself.
  • It’s a dog eat dog world.
This approach to life can be very isolating. It can also move us gradually into an emotional and psychological posture toward life that deprives us from constructive sources of feedback and input. As we rely only on ourselves to always “get the job done” or “achieve the stated goal”, we push ourselves beyond our limits. Then we seek out crutches and comforts in the form of the many aforementioned addictions. Thus begins the inexorable slide into a psychiatric profile which can be defined by manic or depressive behavior and symptoms.
Many people throughout Western society (and the East actually) are perpetually in the state of hypomania. Our society so rewards the type of achievement and production which such individuals can accomplish in so short a period of time that they usually move through life undiagnosed. When a hypomanic episode does emerge, they are usually drugged temporarily so as to keep them within the range of socially acceptable behavior. The underlying pattern then continues until they develop a full blown case of BPD requiring serious intervention, sometimes hospitalization.
Pharmaceutical medications are not the answer, but may be necessary as a short term intervention.
When the various anti-depressants and other psycho-active drugs are routinely employed in the treatment of these mind maladies, great care ought to be taken. Here are some reasons why:
  1. These drugs only treat the superficial symptoms, not the real causes.
  2. They have proven to have extremely serious side effects, both physical and psychological.
  3. Many have proven to have an addictive quality which is very difficult to break.
  4. Dangerous behavior to others and oneself can be triggered the longer one is on these meds, especially when one tries to get off the medication altogether without proper monitoring and supervision.
  5. These powerful pharmaceuticals only serve to mask the real source of the illness and therefore divert necessary attention away from the root causes.
  6. They also promote a lack of clarity just when the individual really needs to get real with themselves.
What we suggest is that anyone who labors under one, or more of these prescriptions at the same time, read the adverse side effects which are listed by law. Get on the internet and go to the numerous forums which have been started by those who have been addicted or harmed by these powerful psychoactive drugs. In fact, the many bizarre behaviors and acts of violence that we see across the headline news are often committed by those who have been under the influence of these mind-altering drugs.

How to Dramatically Boost Functions of the Digestive System

Mike Barrett

While there are numerous possibilities for health problems to arise, the issue of poor digestion is often overlooked. If your digestive system is not functioning properly, and there is a great chance that this is the case, then your body will have a tough time absorbing vitamins and nutrients. Along with these nutrient deficiencies may also come health issues like fatigue, skin disorders, emotional instability, and a whole host of other problems. In order to avoid these health issues, you need to know how to help improve the functions of the digestive system.

Helping Functions of the Digestive System

There are entire texts which focus on the topic of digestion and how your body breaks down and utilizes nutrients. Considered by some experts to be the ’2nd brain’, the human digestive system goes through extremely complex processes and even has the ability to produce neurotransmitters. In addition, this system possesses an advanced communication network similar to that of a human brain. While the research concerning digestion is still in the early stages, we know that keeping functions of the digestive system strong is crucial for optimal health. So how do we help the digestive system to be strong?
  • Chew Your Food and Eat Slowly – An extremely basic eating principle, chewing your food and eating slowly is essential to maintain digestive health. While digestion may seem like it starts once you swallow, the entire process actually starts in your mouth when enzymes from the salivary glands help to chemically break down food molecules into a absorbable size for your body. It is recommended to chew each bite of food at least 20 times, and don’t rush the process.
  • Consume Foods that Promote Easy Digestion – Foods like dried fruit, beans, apples, vegetables, and flaxseeds are great for improving digestion. One particular food that has amazing digestive-promoting properties is papaya, or papaya leaf extract. This food can help with the digestive system by breaking down proteins and supporting production of digestive enzymes. Although Papaya Leaf Extract is often viewed as an excellent treatment for digestive disorders as well as disturbances of the gastrointestinal tract, it provides many more health benefits. Oregano oil benefits also encompass the supporting of the digestive system.
  • Drink Warm Water with Lemon - The hydrating power of pure water is largely beneficial on its own, but when matched with a few slices of nutrient-packed lemon, warm lemon water can empower your health through boosting your energy, helping to improve functions of the digestive system, and even be a powerful ally in your quest for natural fat loss. It’s atomic composition is similar to that of saliva’s and the hydrochloric acid of digestive juices.
  • Take care of Inflammatory Issues - Inflammation is one of the most common causes of poor digestion and overall gut health. Sugar is the main culprit behind the causes of inflammation, so sugar consumption should be reduced drastically. The only way to reduce sugar consumption is to count the grams of you sugar consume daily, and ultimately limit the number to ~25g. In addition vitamin D, magnesium, quality fish oil, and turmeric can help with inflammation. Taking care of digestive issues is also one of many ways to improve mental health and clarity.
  • Drink More Water - The digestive system needs to be well hydrated like the rest of the body, but downing glasses of water near mealtime will impair digestive strength and may cause upsets. Water is best sipped lightly during a meal. Otherwise you should get your water in at least 15-30 minutes before a meal and preferably at least an hour after. This is also a basic technique to improving functions of the digestive system.
  • Avoid Splenda - Ghrelin is your stomach’s appetite signal. While it has many roles, it also releases a growth hormone that repairs the body. Ghelin levels increase in response to digestive distress. With the increase in ghelin levels comes the increase in appetite, causing you to eat more food. Splenda’s link to a digestive imbalance means that this process will occur, ending in weight gain. Elevated ghelin levels increase your cravings for sugar and carbohydrates, causing you to eat an excess amount of food that goes through an already-distressed digestive system. If you have these cravings, then it’s time to fix your digestive system.

Marketing of Madness: Australian Government Begins Testing Three-Year-Old Children for Mental Illness (report & video)

 by

In an another attempt by Big Brother to intrude on the development of our children, the Australian Federal Government has begun to systematically test three-year-old children for signs of mental illness via a national program aptly named “healthy kids check”.
The Australian Federal Government claims that the aim of the program is to improve the health and well-being of Australian children by identifying lifestyle risk factors that three-year-old children may be exposed to (for example, sleeping with the light on, having temper tantrums and being shy).
The healthy kids check program is expected to start July 1 2012 and will be predominantly managed by local General Practitioners who will be expected to report their findings to the Federal Government upon completion of an assessment form.
This test will form part of a standardised evaluation program for developmental problems such as hearing, vision and speech impairments. The Australian government expects that 27,000 3-year-old children will be assessed for “mental illness” within the first few months.  (Full Report Click)

Overdosed: Over 25% of Kids on Prescription Drugs (report + MP3 audio)

Mike Barrett

May 30, 2012

A report released by Medco Health Solutions Inc., the biggest U.S. pharmacy-benefit manager, shows that over 25% of children and teens are involved with taking prescription medications – although that number may have risen over the past couple years. Based on the company’s data from 2009, 7% of U.S. children are on a shocking two or more drugs.
Despite the alarming amount of children being fed prescription medication, many of these drugs were intended or tested for only adult use. Research on the drugs’ effects in kids is dismal, and consequences of giving these drugs to children without proper research could result in far more problems than the one meant to be treated. Although popping pills to alleviate pain or fix health issues shouldn’t be the answer for anyone, it is especially dangerous for younger bodies that are given doses which aren’t even tested for.
“We know we’re making errors in dosing and safety,” says Dr. Benjamin, who is leading a new National Institutes of Health initiative to study drugs in children.
As time goes on, it seems that more pharmaceutical pills are taken on a grand scale. Not only are adults and even pets being fed prescription drugs, but now children are also becoming reliant on such medications. Many of the prescription pills are statins, ADHD pills, antipsychotics, and sleeping pills. All of which have been shown to cause considerable harm.
